Self-exclusion that works at the door, every time.

ClientScan recognises self-excluded customers as they enter and alerts your staff in real time — so enforcement no longer depends on someone remembering a photograph.

The problem: enforcement depends on memory

Every land-based gambling business in Great Britain must offer self-exclusion and take part in a multi-operator scheme. But when an excluded customer walks in, most venues still rely on a member of staff recognising them from a photograph.

The results are well documented. A BBC investigation in June 2025 found a self-excluded reporter could gamble in 13 of 14 adult gaming centres he visited. The Gambling Commission has since suspended licences and, in 2026, fined an operator £150,000 for self-exclusion failings.

How ClientScan helps

  1. Capture. A standard camera at the entrance — USB or RTSP / IP — streams video to ClientScan.
  2. Recognise. Faces are detected in real time and matched against your self-exclusion database in under 200ms.
  3. Alert. Staff receive an alert via WhatsApp, email or on-screen, showing the person's name and exclusion period, so they can step in before the customer starts to gamble.

Built for the way venues work

  • Runs on low-cost hardware. Standard Microsoft Windows PCs with existing cameras.
  • Fast deployment. Install from the Microsoft Store in a few clicks.
  • Multi-site. A central cloud database means an exclusion registered at one venue can be recognised at every venue.
  • Self-enrolment. Individuals can upload their own images for self-exclusion through the Self Exclusion Portal.
  • Evidence. Alerts create a record of breach attempts and responses to support audits and conversations with regulators and licensing authorities.

Deployed responsibly

Facial recognition uses biometric data, which is special category data under UK GDPR. ClientScan is designed for a single, protective purpose, with human confirmation of every match, and is Cyber Essentials certified. We'll help you understand exactly how data is processed so you can complete your DPIA. See our UK GDPR guide.

Where it fits

ClientScan supports self-exclusion in adult gaming centres, betting shops, bingo halls and casinos — and the same camera can support Think 25 age verification.

Frequently asked questions

01Does ClientScan decide whether to refuse a customer?+

No. ClientScan alerts staff to a likely match. A trained member of staff confirms the match and follows your self-exclusion procedure, including signposting support.

02Which self-exclusion schemes does it work with?+

ClientScan holds the images and details of excluded individuals in a central database, so it can support the scheme or schemes your venues belong to — MOSES, SENSE, Bacta, BISES or SmartEXCLUSION — as well as your own exclusions.

03Can it cover several venues?+

Yes. A central cloud database serves multi-site installations, and each site can process several cameras simultaneously.
